Are you tired of your posts getting no reach on Instagram? Do you put all your effort into quality content for your business but feel like it goes to a black hole once you post it? We're here to tell you today that it could be Instagram doesn't fully quite understand your audience yet - so it tests its posts on the wrong initial people.
We're going to go over a unique method that will show you how to grow your Instagram account using Meta ads in 2024.
To preface, if you are not posting truly great content - there's nothing you can do. This is not a hack to go viral from non-captivating content. Please exit if that is you. But this is a method that can help jumpstart your algorithm by pointing it in the right direction of who your audience is.
First, since you'll hopefully be getting more traffic on Instagram - take some time to think about how you want them to experience your profile. What actions do you want to push them to take once they find you? How will you be engaging with your audience? Social platforms heavily reward the amount of time you're keeping the user on their platform for. If they spend more time than they would on platform after finding your profile, that is a big plus.
Let's get into how to grow your Instagram account using Meta ads. The following steps will be assuming you have an ad account and business manager set up. If you do not, you can refer to Meta's help article here.
Identify your most engaged audience
This should closely align to your target customer, however it should be slightly refined to who is most likely to engage specifically on Instagram. Figure out what action or behavior on social media can differentiate them so they have a higher chance of engaging with your account. Use these to narrow your audience.
Campaign objective
Since we want engagement, and this is one of the only objectives that allows specifically what we're doing, you'll select the "engagement" objective at the campaign level. At the ad set level, you'll be selecting "on your ad" for conversion location, and then "post engagement" and "maximize engagement with a post".

Set specific demographics
This can be age, gender, income level, purchase behavior, language. Be specific to who will genuinely love your content. Again, the aim is finding the most engaged audience. You can separate different sub-profiles with different interests out into different ad sets to see which performs the best.
Choose placements
You'll want to run your ad primarily as a feed or reel placement. A story or most other placements where people do not often comment through will do you no good.
Use your page's posts
This way you can leverage any social proof you gain on your page organically under one post. A dark ad (ad not posted on your public page) won't allow you to leverage any existing engagement once you edit it. This will let you keep it, and make it look to as close to a real post as possible.
Test multiple posts
Again, the goal is engagement. Test at least 3 posts, these can be images or videos, and shift your spend heavier to the one with the highest engagement.
CTA
Since the goal is just to get more engagement to grow your Instagram account, this is a rare case where no call to action would actually be beneficial. Leaving this off will make it look even closer to a organic post, which is what we want.
Test, test, test...
Even when you find a post with high engagement, test more. Continuing to test posts with this method will help push you to make better content, and give a better picture of an engagement profile of your followers to Meta. This in turn will help you grow Instagram using Meta Ads.
Metrics
You'll want to keep an eye on a few core metrics:
-Engagement Rate
-Video completion rate (if video)
-Video average play time (if video)
-Post comments, saves and shares (what's shown in the ad account will be what was directly a result of your ads)
-Rate of comments, saves, and shares (individually broken out will be best)
-Engagement rate ranking (this will tell you how engagement on your ads ranks against similar profiles/ competitors)
These will hit the core points of what Meta's algorithm looks for and help you to grow your Instagram using Meta ads, and find your page's target audience.
